The Race

As I stood at the start, ready to run

I looked around and I saw

Many runners were there, excited and revved;

Thinking "a miracle I'm here," and in awe.

I stood among many, but seemed all alone

As I pondered what had I done wrong.

But then it was time for the race to begin

And I had to be running along.

As the race was started, off they all ran,

Leaving me behind in the dust.

But I plodded along, one focus in sight,

"I'll finish" I thought, "Yes, I must."

I looked up to the finish as I was halfway through

Grandkids with their Grandma running across.

Great, I thought, as they had done well,

I'd finish, even if at a loss.

"Why am I doing this?" the thought crossed my mind

It seems like nobody cares..

But now that I've started, I will finish

As my eyes began to fill with tears.

As I was getting close to the end,

Thinking of being all alone.

I saw him come up, his smile so bright,

Isaac came to help me come home.

I imagined, then, what it will be like

When we finish this life all alone.

Our Savior will be there, his hand in ours,

Smiling to welcome us home.
