I wrote this poem because I was teaching a Gospel Doctrine lesson on 'The Desert as a Rose'. I looked online for one,

but didn't find one that met the need for the lesson. So, I wrote this one myself. Most poems I have written were for

birthday or other greeting cards. Making the cards has become a hobby.

As a Rose

As we walked into the desert,

our hearts were filled with joy.

When we looked over the landscape,

we knew the work we would employ.

But what a blessing to be able

to live without the pain

To live in peace the way we want,

without the outside world's disdain.

Our work was started quickly

as we knew what we had to do.

We followed our prophet in all he said,

that is what pulled us through.

We had plenty to keep us busy,

but we turned unto the Lord,

In times of tribulation and,

as we went out and explored.

Our prayers were ever answered

as we toiled and followed Him.

We built a temple to the Lord

with lots of vigor and vim.

And now our desert flourishes,

one look by you would disclose,

Our desert and our people,

blossom as a rose.
