The Skim Board Project |
Fun at the Virgin River |
When we first moved here, we would see kids
walking down the street with skim boards. I remember thinking, 'where's the
beach?'. Well, come to find out, they skim board at the river's edge and sandbars.
So, this year we decided to let the grandkids make their own skim boards and
then go for some river fun. A friend of ours cut the boards out for us and
the kids each sanded, painted and coat them with polyurethane. The pictures
below show them making the boards, followed by the fun at the river. After
trying out the boards, we went a little upriver to the old irrigation dam.
The kids found they could go under the waterfall that flows over the dam at
one side, walk to the the length of the fall, and come out the other side.
Once out, the force of the river puts them sliding down-river about 100 yards.
After doing that a few times, the remainder of the day was spent digging 'swimming
pools' on the river bank, playing with Kevin (family dog), collecting tadpoles,
and more skim boarding. Enjoy the pictures. By clicking on any picture, you
